Hydrographic Film Supplies Basecoat FAQs

Hydrographic film supplies have developed a base coat that is designed for the hydrographic process. Our base coat’s are a high quality 2 stage paint that is very consistent and user friendly. The following information is to be used as guideline to help with your project. Should you have any more questions you can email us at southernhydrographics@live.com

Primer - Our high build primer is the perfect product for a quick coverage over darker substrates and to even out used substrates that you’re trying to renew. It’s a fast drying and sand-able substance.

Base Coats - We have several options to choose from for base coats used in the hydrographic process. Everything from fluorescents, metallic, basic colors and much more.

Clear Coats - Our clear coat line offers both high gloss and dead flat clears. Our automotive grade clear coats have a great UV protection.

Application help -

1 – Be sure to shake can well before use. Metallic colors should be shaken vigorously for 1-2 minutes to ensure proper mixing.

2 - Store in climate-controlled environment. Long term storage in extreme heat or cold can damage the product.

3 – Before spraying be sure to inspect spray nozzle, our aerosols have an adjustable fan spray nozzle. Be sure that the Nozzle is cleared and that it is fully inserted into can before spraying. If the Nozzle isn’t fully inserted it will cause the can to leak.

4 – The primer, base, and clear coats should all be applied in several light coats VS 1-2 heavy coats. Some of our metallics are thinned to work in an aerosol and if it is sprayed heavily that will cause the paint to run. We recommend spraying the first coat light to create a tack coat. This coat shouldn’t do full coverage of substrate. Apply 2-3 coats after tack coat until 2-3 mill thickness is achieved.

5-   For best results, fluorescent paints should be applied over a white base coat.

6-  Our product is designed for quick drying, please allow 10-15 minutes for dry time between coats.

7-  You can begin the dipping process once the base coat is dry to the touch, if your project is painted and not dipped in 1 week time it is recommended to scuff the base coat, clean, and then apply a fresh coat.

Care and storage -

1 - Before every use, inspect spray nozzle for correct placement and adjustment.

2 - If spray nozzle gets clogged we recommend using Q-tip or lint free rag with lacquer thinner to clear and clean.

3 - Keep your paint is a climate-controlled environment. Long term storage in cold or heat can damage the product.

4 - After each use it’s recommended to clear the can. Hold the can upside down and compress nozzle for 3-5 seconds or until nothing is seen coming out of tip.
